The name Los Clavos Surf Camp
We named our surf camp Los Clavos after the name of the village. Los Clavos meaning "nails" in Spanish, we owe you an explanation.
the hamlet of Los Clavos
Los Clavos is the name of a small hamlet on the long sandy beach which stretches from Manzano 2 to Jiquilillo. Fishermen who lived there used to put nails in the palmtrees to hang their fishing nets when returning from fishing. Each family had their nails planted in the trees by the ocean, therefore people could easily identify this place from afar as "Los Clavos".
still fishing in los clavos
Nowadays fishermen still go fishing at night and you can see the tiny glowing light of their boats on the horizon. So don't be surprised if you have a fresh local baracuda or pargo in your plate for lunch, or grilled lobsters on the barbecue for dinner at Los Clavos Surf Camp. Although we don't see as many nails as before on trees, fishes and seafood are fresh and delicious around here...
