Where to surf in Sri Lanka ? Yes indeed there is surf in Sri Lanka and the waves are good for beginners surfers to very good surfers. 

 

In this short article we tried to list a few of the best spots in Sri Lanka depending on your surf level.  Have a nice surf in Sri Lanka wherever you ride ! 

 

 

 

 

 

- Hikkaduwa - Man Reef break: Hikkaduwa beach is several kilometers long and you will find all sorts of breaks- This one is for beginners surfers and located in one  of the nicest beach town in Sri Lanka.

- Welligama: Left and rights - mellow waves with sandy bottom. The Best beginner spot in Sri Lanka so far ! 

- Arugama: Nice and perfect bay with infinite numbers of right hands waves.

 

 

 

Warm water surf all year long at Los Clavos Surf Camp 

 

 

 

- Hikkaduwa - North Jetty: one of the most powerful spots in Sri Lanka

- Mirissa: lots of urchins but great waves - Be nice with the locals and respect priorities :-) 

- Midigama - You will find barrels at the Rams - Quite dangerous becaus of the reef ! 

 

 

 

Alternative surf destination : North Nicaragua with Los Clavos Surf Camp 

 

 

 

You can surf in Sri Lanka almost all year long. From November to March it is better to surf Sri Lanka West coast.  From April to end of October you must surf the East Coast. This way you avoid the moonsoons that hit the two coasts of Sri Lanka during the year.
